 Leather goods from time to time should be polished with wax to maintain its long life. Perspiration and water do hamper the life of a leather product and thus should be much avoided 

The myth that a poly urethane product has a longer life is totally untrue, a leather product goes thru various processes to get its final structure and thus is far superior than any product made from a plastic polymer can ever be. 

Best storage for these products are a dry surrounding to ensure longer life and quality usage.
